Daniel smiled as the first chords of a familiar and loved Christmas carol came to his ears. It wasn’t long ago, maybe 9 or so years – always taking out the one year non-corporeal – that those festive jingles didn’t give him a reason to smile.
So much had happened to him around the holidays, and so much more to have to reflect on. But, he supposed, in the end, it was well worth the heartache to be able to truly find what the season now meant to him. He had a family, ever growing and budding, he had a warm place to sleep and couldn’t help but chuckle when someone glazed over when he started talking. So many bad memories were suddenly filled with good ones.
And now, December 8, Daniel and the rest of SG-1, with a few added, were finally decorating the base’s tree. They had asked everyone to bring some ornaments and lights, which proved to be an interesting collection of cartoon characters, Star Wars, and musical ornaments. Traditional glass balls and lights finished the tree, until Vala came in and dumped tinsel over the tree, than it was deemed done.
Daniel smiled as the song continued, and “White Christmas” was played. He looked at the tree and said goodnight as the others wondered away, to start their weekend of leave. A hand rested on his shoulder, followed by a leaning head resting on his arm. He smiled and looked down at Sam as she looked at the tree.
“It’s a classic Stargate tree,” she chuckled. The mismatch of everyone was always an interesting sight. It reminded Sam that all of SG-1 and the SGC were different people, but came together as one.
“I think it’s still missing something, though,” she said after a few minutes.
Daniel gave her a questioning look.
“The top,” she pointed out. “The top is missing the angel.”
Daniel smiled and turned to gather Sam into his arms. “I hadn’t noticed. My angel is right here.”
