Well after my 10hr, disaster riddled flight from Frankfurt to Dallas, and after a weekend with my parents finishing their church retreat.... I am finally back in their house, and petting and loving on my kitties!
So my flight... i'll try to keep this short. but ya, right! So my flight... oi! My aunt and I woke up early (4:45am) to drive to the Frankfurt airport so I could catch my 8:20am flight. Not a problem, we got there ontime, checked my luggage, and decided to have a cup of tea/coffee (me tea, her hot chocolate) ... i was nervous (like always) so I didn't eat anything other than a piece of bread (insert lement of German Bread - oh how I miss thee!!) earlier that morning. We sat and talked, just the pre-flight stuff. I told her I needed to go, but she was like, no, you have time... so we sat.
Anyhow, we finally paid (the attendant was the most unattendant person ever) and said our final good-byes, and I head through the security checks. Not a big deal, just a long line, and usually only one security check to get to the gate.... right. not this time. So I find my gate, but have to pass through another security check, and than run to my gate... only to find out that I was like 2 or so min before the flight was leaving... *insert head desk, wide-eyed, panic Chris*
So I go over to the Luftansa desk to try to get on the next flight, but they cant do it because I didn't book my Frankfurt to London leg with them - I had to rebook through American Air.... Ohhhhh kaaay... so I finally find where I need to be,..... and a frakin long line like to China!! We shuffle forward and I am silently freaking out because, hell, this is the first time I have missed a flight, flew transcontinental on my own... oh ya, and my luggage is most likely on it's way to London. Without me. Frack! So thankfully a clerk comes through the line, asking something about Dallas, and I explain (or try to) my situation, so I am shuffled off to the ticket counter to explain my situation and we find a non-stop Frankfurt to Dallas for $288 more but I'd be on standby, and they overbooked the flight by one. SOLD! I take that, and was able to hop back in line behind the same people as before (bless them!) and was in front of the ticket booth in like 5 min.
SO, ok, had my ticket for my new flight, and of course the gate is all the way in South Africa,.... so I am walking... walking... walking.... with a very heavy backpack which I stuffed to the poor gills, but I am so glad to have all my stuff.... and we are walking... and walking,... and oh ya, walking. So I finally get to the gate, texting mom the whole time about what's happening, cause I don't know if I am on this flight, or is have to be on a later one, and would arrive in Dallas later... and I go through another check point *sigh* and finally am at the gate, tell the lady who I am and that I am on standby. About (or what feels like) 15 minutes later, my name is called! YEAH!! I text mom as I am *again* walking to the plane which must be in the West Indies, cause it's the longest walk to a plane in the history of flying... and I text mom saying "AA71 arrives @ 230 cu then" send. And finally board the plane.
10 hours later I touch down in Dallas, and 30 minutes later I am standing in the area waiting to find my parents... yup, going through immigration, baggage, and customs was a breeze on the US side. Helped there wasn't a long line at immigrations, but I was surprised (and extremely relieved) how quick I got my luggage.
So mom and dad finally found me, or maybe it was the other way around, and we drove up north of Denton to the church retreat place (they had asked earlier if I wanted to go home or to the retreat, I said retreat cause than they wouldn't miss more stuff, plus I wanted to hang out at the retreat place - very pretty place). I managed to stay awake until 8/8:30pm (2am or so my body time) and than I slowly walked to the room and crashed out. I woke up a bit at 4am, but fell back to sleep on and off until mom and dad texted me at 7:20am to ask if I was up. It was nice, someone had left the retreat that night, so i got a room to myself. :)
So now I am home, my kitties finally warming up to me. I guess they are kind of wondering why I left them alone with "strangers" and why I am suddenly back, and will I leave again? hehe my kitties! I am planning on going home either on Monday (tomorrow) or Tues. I need to call Movie Gallery to get my schedule... tomorrow. I'll worry about that. Cause I have my apartment to clean and am NOT looking forward to that. But I don't mind much since I am hoping my bug problem has cleared up for the next few months. I can deal with having to launder my bedding and clean my bathroom, bedroom, landing, stairs, living room and my kitchen to be bug free.
So over all, my trip was AWESOME (yup, that word again)... and to all my new friends (and the ones I finally saw face to face) *HUGE HUGGLES* I hope we all can come back for AT4 whenever that is!!
I promise to have a AT3 recap sometime too... I have 400 pics of the weekend but maybe 100 that are actually good. I have more good ones of us as a group (and food Diane!) so I will have to start to upload all those pics... and the rest of London, and than the ones from Germany... OI! I have like 600+ pics on my camera, and almost 400 on my photobucket. Thank goodness for big memory cards...
ANYhow, once more I advocate TRAVEL to everyone. It not only makes you see people, but awesome places that, even so they look like your home, are almost like from a dream. Beautiful meadows (or English countryside) to amazing castles (German Schloss) they all make you realize how big (and small) this world is. People are people no matter where you are, we simply all speak another language (even in England!)
Next big travel: Boston in December for my friend's wedding!! And maybe PR if I have money/job to see Ani!
